Music: Sampling and a Mash-up

The point of this post is to see a sort of evolution (musically). It starts with a a great song by MGMT entitled Kids. Then it goes to a rap song that samples it, which sounds awesome. Lastly, I have a video that I posted earlier where the song is sampled again, but with less editing. I think that it is really cool to see all of these songs together and to hear the power of music tech.

This is something I’ve been working on for a little bit. It did not turn out quite as amazingly as I’d hoped. I plan on reworking it with some things tschwab has sent me and making it a bit funkier. This is what I am dubbing the classic mix because it maintains 90% of the classic rock feel. I have to give a shout out to tschwab for helping me on this and I can’t wait to drop some of his guitar riffs in here.

I have a deadline of tomorrow, so this is where the progress is ending for now.

This is my favorite track from tschwab, so I decided to do some minor editing with some free tools available online.

This isn’t anything ridiculous and probably not better than the original track, but a computer is like any other instrument – you can only be as good as the frequency that you practice. So this is a practice run at a tschwab/spencerb collaboration. I’m hoping after finals and after my final project to dig through the song and find some good samples. Look out for the hiphop mix dropping this spring ;) .
