“Success…

…is my only motherfucking option, failure’s not!”

-Eminem

This weekend, the NU Mock Trial team went to Waukegan, IL to compete in the Open Round Championship Tournament. This was composed of the qualifiers from a series of Regional Tournaments (including Milwaukee and Joliet…I believe). The top 8 teams from this tournament go onto Nationals, in a very lackluster Des Moines, Iowa.

Northwestern took first and second place, qualifying both teams to go to Nationals. This has been an amazing year for us, I really enjoy competing and I’m glad we get to go on. I think we have a real shot at winning the national championship. Rumor has it that one of the top-ranked schools, Harvard, did not end up qualifying any teams.

Looks like this thing is wide open for some Wildcat domination. Anyway, I’ll keep you posted, as this is the extra-curricular that has been dominating by time as of late.

Daily Northwestern Acknowledges Mock Trial

Thumbs:

Thumbs up to the Northwestern Mock Trial team’s climb into the top five nationally.

This week, The NU mock trial team came in fourth in the nation after three fall tournament victories. Six new coaches, including former team member, Clare Bergeron (Weinberg ‘07), have fueled the rise in ranking. With NU still not a top ten university and only fifth in Big Ten football, the mock trial team provides the university with a ranking it can truly be proud of. In the end, the mock trial team represents the school as only great legal advisers can: superbly.

Weekend Blogging Hiatus 2 Ends

I was in southern Illinois this weekend at ISU in Bloomington, IL. For the past two years, I have been participating on the Northwestern Mock Trial team. The teams I was on last year did not experience any major victories. This year has been different.

Last week, we took first place. This week, second. I’ll be honest, I was a bit disappointed, but being successful feels great. Moreover, the team that we sent to Macalester this weekend took third place and the other team at ISU got 5th place this weekend. In other words, NU Mock Trial has been kicking ass and taking names.

NU football, on the other hand, got their butts handed to them by Ohio State. Honestly, not a surprising outcome.

A little more surprisingly, Michigan beat Minnesota!

Blogging Hiatus/Trip to Iowa

Alright, some of you pay have noticed the conspicuous lack of posing! I apologize!

I was in Iowa all weekend competing in a Mock Trial tournament at Cornell College. Yes, it sounds lame going to Iowa, but in the mock trial world, Iowa is pretty important (for whatever that’s worth). To cut a long story short, my team won the tournament (congrats everyone!). We’re 6-0 going into the final round and split ballots in the last, losing one by a single point.

It was a lot of fun, but the weekend went by too fast. In other news, I have an international finance midterm on Wednesday that I’m a little worried about.

Also, Election tomorrow!!!

Long Time, No Post

Wow, I make an intense claim that I need to start podcasting and then I stop making blog posts. I guess I have proven I really have what it takes to accomplish that!

Well, a lot has been happening recently. Over winter break I went on vacation – once with my family and once with Monica. Both were a lot of fun. School has started again I have some interesting classes this semester at NU. History of Economic Thought, Politics of Local Justice, and my second to last quarter of Chinese. I also am taking a Legal Studies class as credit for participating in Mock Trial.

As one could tell from my facebook quotes, I am really enjoying the history of economic thought. It is fantastic reading the writings of the great minds that have formed my field of study.

I have been fervently looking for jobs, mostly in the financial industry. It is nice being at a school where the business school does not hide all the opportunities away. I have started working for a more public interest like group called the Cyber Privacy Project. It is run by a professor from the Harvard Medical School who is a visiting prof at the Medill School of Journalism at NU. It is interesting and if I can muster up some time to devote to it I think I could play an exciting role

In other news, I really need to start pumping out some LSAT prep and figure out what I am going to do next year!

I recommend anyway with a slight interest in MN politics head over to Minnesota Public Radio and create a Fantasy Legislature. Feel free to join the Red League.
